It's been two years since the events of September 11th, 2001, and still I can only call them events. Terrorist attack, war, atrocity are all suitable in a way but have a specific slant to them. In an effort to expose other viewpoints -- those you are not going to hear from Peter Jennings -- we are again introducing our compliation of articles and essays from both FrictionMagazine.com contributors and those of other alternative media. While we mourn for the loss of life, let us not forget the great freedoms that make our nation what it is.

Flag Burning Day. It began as a day of national decontamination -- a day to expel the stench of the Bush Administration. A day to end warped notions of patriotism, gaudy jingoist sound-bites, and simple-minded shoulder graphics. A day to end puritanical smugness and preemptive war.

Journalists like to think of themselves as watchdogs, nipping at the heels of the powerful and guarding democracy. Progressive critics see them as lapdogs for the political and corporate elite. More often reporters are just tired old dogs asleep on the porch.
